The EU adopted a bill on the development of renewable energy sources (RES): RES should generate 32% of the electricity in the EU by 2030. This became possible after making a decision on electricity generation by individuals: an EU citizen now has the right not only to produce and store electricity, but also to sell it. The new agreement is not only beneficial for EU citizens, but also primarily for manufacturers of solar power equipment. The association, SolarPower Europe, called the new agreement a big victory. Experts note that the transition to new energy sources will not go so quickly across the whole of the EU. In Germany, some slowdown is expected since this country is more used to generating power from coal.

Dutch researchers have accelerated the creation of quantum entanglement by a thousand times - a phenomenon in which the quantum state of each particle cannot be described independently of the state of the others, even when the particles are separated by a large distance. They planfor to use this new knowledge to create the first quantum internet in the next few years. Scientists from the Delft Technical University have been working on improving the quantum network for years. At first, in 2014, they managed to transmit information through just a room in. By 2015, the distance they could transfer information had increased to 1,300 kilometers. But the connection was unstable, as it could only be established for a fraction of a second at an interval of one hour. Now the connection can be established up to 40 times per second, although all the same restriction of one second every hour remains. It was also not possible to connect a third computer. By 2020, scientists are planning to create a quantum computer network between four cities in the Netherlands.

While car manufacturers are focused on the creation of electric vehicles, there is the question of how to recycle old models. Volvo has given a grant to study the technology of adding a compressor to old diesel truck engines in order to run on compressed air. The new device will provide a cheaper way of storing energy produced by renewable energy sources if scientists can create this technology. The British University of Birmingham received one of the grants. One of the professors of the Faculty of Engineering, Seamus Garvey, plans to create an engine compressor unit which will compress air and release it through valves. This will not only save energy, but will also generate it.
